About Amy Mullen

Amy Mullen is a garden designer, coach, blogger, and plant geek based in Indianapolis, IN. A degree in physics, a lifelong love of theatre, and a background in communications and marketing make her uniquely suited to demystifying gardening for clients and readers alike.
A role in a college theatre production took Amy into the garden of a beloved professor, where she learned how to make lavender crowns for an annual reading of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. That introduction to herbs and their lore exploded into a passion for gardening that has followed her throughout her professional life.
With more than fifteen years of experience as a garden coach and designer, today Amy delivers personalized garden designs and guidance to clients in central Indiana. Her special interests include topics at the intersection of ecology and horticulture, native plants of the Midwest, and maximizing garden joy while minimizing labor. Her own small urban garden is an on-going experiment in residential native plantings, including a rain garden and miniature sedge meadow.
She is a member of the Ecological Landscape Alliance, and she serves as the chair of the Sustainability Committee for GardenComm: Garden Communicators International.
Amy’s other interests include sustainability, garden history and design, historical costuming, acquiring yet more books, shopping thrift stores, and pretty much anything to do with cats.
